False rumours

I would like to reassure residents of North Wiltshire that none of the Leisure Centres is under threat. Over £1.8M has been spent on improvements over the last two years including £180,000 on energy saving measures. This has resulted in cleaner, more attractive facilities which has led to greatly increased attendance and income.

I regret very much that the Lib Dem candidate in Box and Colerne states in her literature that she is ‘supporting efforts to keep the Leisure Centre open’. It is not clear which one she is referring to.

I clearly remember the Gazette campaign two years ago to keep the Leisure Centres open when they were run down with low attendance and faced with closure. None were closed; they are now a huge success and an asset to our communities.

It is unfair and unreasonable to raise the fear of closure when none are remotely contemplated and only for political gain.
