The parliamentary constituency of Chippenham was abolished in 1983 but recreated for the 2010 general election. The current seat is broadly made up of the towns of Chippenham, Bradford on Avon, Melksham and Corsham. The constituency was formed from the previously existing Devizes, North Wiltshire and Westbury constituencies.
The seat has been held by Conservative MP, Michelle Donelan since 2015, having previously been a strong Liberal Democrat seat. In the 2017 general election Michelle increased her majority to 51.4% of the vote.
